HERE’S A SAMPLE OF WHAT A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A SOCIAL IMPACT STRATEGIST MIGHT ENTAIL:

    – Developing and executing comprehensive impact/brand purpose strategies for our clients and build long-term critical metrics that deliver measurable change, using Theory of Change modelling and other planning tools to develop strategic plans with ambitious goals
    – Coaching team members on how to apply greater positive impact to an upcoming creative campaign
    – Pitching and closing an exciting new social enterprise partner alongside Yulu’s founder
    – Playing a key role in building Yulu’s Impact Strategy Division by proposing new ideas to help advance areas to enhance and improve Yulu’s impact suite of services
    – Hosting a lunch & learn for the team on your designated UN SDG
    – Sitting in on a client meeting to ensure authenticity, transparency and purpose is considered in all initiatives and communications
    – Playing an active role within the local and international B Corp community – from community engagement to collaborating with Yulu’s Ops team to increase the company’s B Impact Assessment score
    – Establishing and driving the key programming and impactful strategic partnerships required to deliver our clients’ social impact and sustainability strategy, with a particular focus on equity. This might include leading an in-depth planning session and drafting reports and other materials that summarize initiative strategic plans
    – Offering all staff positive feedback and coaching on impact consultancy and brand purpose strategy skills
    – Vetting new business prospects to ensure alignment with Yulu’s social mandate
    – Ensuring Yulu’s year-end impact report transparently reflects authentic impact

    Assumptions:
    – A minimum of 6 years’ experience in impact consultancy, preferably in an agency or client services capacity (agency or in-house); 3+ years experience developing program plans and/or organizational impact strategies
    – Experience in a design consultancy or an in-house innovation center an asset
    – Proven experience taking an idea from theory and analysis to launch: designing, developing, and executing initiatives from beginning to end, creating KPIs and metrics to track progress and measure success
    – Experience developing Theory of Change models and/or using other planning tools and methodologies in applied policy settings
    – Experience using participatory research methods, partnering with impacted communities, or working with advocacy movements
    – Experience managing cross-functional teams with the ability to pull together various, and sometimes conflicting, inputs into a common point of view
    – Ability to take individual ownership and work collaboratively. Possess collaboration skills and experience mentoring and supporting colleagues with diverse skill sets
    – Ability to work in a high paced environment managing to tight deadlines, influencing stakeholders, and delivering with flawless execution
    – Ability to utilize unique perspective and skills to create new initiatives that catapult this work forward

PR INTERNSHIP

This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship… are you an aspiring social impact PR star near or recently graduated? Yulu PR offers a comprehensive three-month, full-time internship that will absolutely give you the practical experience necessary to hit the ground running when you land your first paying gig – that is if we don’t snag you up upon completion. There won’t be any photocopying, stapling, coffee errands, or mind-numbingly boring work for you. We have a thorough training and mentorship process that will give you the opportunity to work with some of the most socially- and environmentally-progressive organizations across North America. We’ll have you handling everything from researching purpose-driven communications initiatives, to media list creation, to writing, pitching and event coordination. If you’re a strong writer who’s in the know about current events, you place a premium on a fun work atmosphere, and you like dogs – we want to meet you!

DAILY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Conducting industry research for Yulu’s socially and environmentally responsible clients
  • Working with Yulu’s account teams to develop and share creative ideas and impact-led solutions for our clients
  • Staying on top of media stories, trends and research in the purpose-driven space and in our clients’ industries
  • Compiling media coverage reports that put impact at the forefront
  • Researching and creating media contact lists
  • Writing compelling pitch notes using the principles of impact storytelling
  • Drafting media materials
  • Pitching media (must feel comfortable with phone pitching – we will train you!)
  • Participating in team lunch & learns on various UN SDGs

Who You Are

You specialize in social media marketing. You know how to make social media work in tandem with a brand’s content strategy, and how to develop social media strategies that feed into a brand’s communications and marketing strategy.

You are a thoughtful, concise communicator (unlike Mark Twain, you take the time to write a short letter) and you know what makes a compelling social impact story or soundbite. You have a sharp eye for aesthetics and have a knack for bringing abstract concepts to life through images, videos, or design. You know how to make a social media page engaging and cohesive. You are data-driven, anything that you don’t know works, you test. 

You know where to look for the newest social media features, trends, and rules, and how to adapt them for brands. You understand the importance of making sure social media is accessible.

You’re able to thrive in a setting where you are the primary expert in your field, and you get to decide what you need to do your job well. You are energized when your work environment is a constant exchange of ideas, concepts and encouragement. You are adaptable, flexible, and open to new opportunities, even if they might throw your editorial calendar out of balance for the day.

Your responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage social media strategies for clients in the social impact sector
  • Write and edit shareable social media posts while adapting to multiple brand voices
  • Source or commission compelling, relevant, on-brand photography and short-form videos
  • Grow audiences by delivering engaging social media and PPC campaigns with campaign budgets between $5,000 and $100,000
  • Create multi-channel editorial calendars with both timely and evergreen content tailored for each social media channel
  • Collaborate and consult with clients to adapt their stories into shareable text, photos and videos that support their brand image
  • Turn the media hits our PR specialists land into channel content
  • Generate reports to support our monthly/quarterly tracking reports
  • Grow Yulu and Impact Relations audiences using the power of content & social media

Your education, experience and skills

  • 4-6 years of experience with social media marketing or digital marketing role
  • Strong writing, editing and presentation skills
  • Proven track record with creating and implementing social media strategies
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced workplace with multiple stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the social impact and social enterprise space in a North American context
  • Experience with Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics, UTM codes an asset
  • Experience with creating simple graphic design assets (ie cropping images, adding text over images, creating an event headers)
  • Knowledge of platforms that can support your work, such as Iconosquare, Linktree, and Hootsuite, HeyOrca and alternatives
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite 

Nice to have

  • A background in graphic design, commercial or editorial photography, or video production or video editing
